Bring your digital product idea to life

I help turn early digital product ideas into something people can understand, try and use. From shaping the opportunity to designing the experience and building a functioning MVP, I can help you work out what the first version should be.

You may have a promising idea, a collection of sketches or a team already making progress. I can join where the uncertainty is greatest: understanding the people you want to serve, deciding what the product should do, or bringing its essential experience together.

The work can include research, product strategy, UX and visual design, interactive prototypes and a functioning MVP. We agree what needs to be learned or made, then choose the appropriate depth of work. A working MVP is intended for testing and early learning; taking it into production requires further preparation.

WHERE WE CAN START

  • Find out whether the opportunity is worth pursuing

Understand the need, the alternatives and the assumptions behind your idea before committing to a particular solution. An idea usually contains several questions at once. Who experiences the problem? How do they handle it today?

Who would decide to buy a solution? Which part of the opportunity is supported by evidence, and which part still needs investigating?

Market and customer research helps establish that context. Product discovery brings the findings together into a clearer opportunity and possible directions. We can start with a focused question or investigate a broader brief, with a useful decision at the end: where to concentrate, what to reconsider and what to explore next.

  • Decide what the product should do first

Give the first version a clear audience, a useful purpose and an experience that fits together. A long list of possible features can make it difficult to see the product itself. I help connect your business ambition with the tasks people need to complete, then shape a first version around the most important of those tasks.

Product strategy establishes priorities and trade-offs. UX research and design translates them into journeys, structure and interactions. We can also consider how the first customers will discover and start using the offer. The result gives your team a shared direction and a more concrete basis for design, development and early conversations with customers.

  • Make the idea tangible and test the difficult parts

Use a prototype or focused experiment to answer the questions that discussion alone cannot resolve. A prototype lets people experience an idea early enough to influence it. Depending on the question, that might mean a rough walkthrough, a clickable interface or a working example using real inputs.

User testing can reveal where the experience is confusing and how the proposition relates to people's existing habits.

When the uncertainty concerns whether a critical capability can work, a proof of concept gives that question a focused investigation. I help choose and design the experiment, build within the agreed scope and involve technical expertise where needed. The purpose of each experiment stays explicit, so its results support the next decision.

  • Build a first version people can try

Bring the core experience into a functioning MVP that supports practical testing and early learning. When the direction is sufficiently clear, I can design and build a working MVP around a complete core task.

That includes deciding what to leave out, giving the product an appropriate visual foundation and making the important interactions work together.

The build provides a way to learn from realistic use and identify what deserves further investment. It is a functioning early version, with its limits agreed from the outset. Before a wider production launch, the product will need further engineering and preparation appropriate to its use. I can also work alongside your developers when the right outcome is a design handoff.
