Strategic foresight & vision building

I help teams explore how relevant changes could affect their future and what they want to create in response. Strategic foresight and vision building connect plausible scenarios with a tangible direction and decisions that can be made today.
Foresight considers several possible futures and the assumptions behind them.
Vision building gives a preferred direction enough substance for people to discuss, challenge and develop it.
The work can combine research into relevant shifts, scenario development, future journeys and product or service concepts. My work at KONE has connected user research, concept development, market research and vision building within early innovation. I bring that combination to briefs where the organisation needs to make an uncertain future more concrete and decide which opportunities to investigate.
CONNECTING FUTURE POSSIBILITIES TO TODAY'S DECISIONS
Identify the changes that matter to your organisation
Focus research on shifts that could affect a specific audience, offering or strategic decision. We begin with the question the team needs to explore and an appropriate time horizon. That gives research a focus: which changes in behaviour, technology, business models or the operating environment could meaningfully affect the decision?
I help gather and interpret relevant signals, considering their source, implications and uncertainty. We look beyond developments that fit the team's existing expectations and ask where current assumptions might become less reliable. The result provides a reasoned starting point for scenarios and concepts, with a clear connection between the material being studied and the choices facing the organisation.
Explore plausible alternative futures
Use contrasting scenarios to examine how different conditions could change people's needs and the organisation's options. Scenarios give a team a way to investigate uncertainty without having to agree on a single prediction.
We identify important forces and unresolved questions, then develop alternative situations that are coherent enough to examine in detail.
The discussion follows their implications: what changes for customers, what becomes difficult for staff and which parts of the current offer remain useful. We can also examine which choices would be fragile under different conditions. The scenarios provide a basis for questioning assumptions and comparing responses, while keeping the distinction between a possibility, a preference and an expected outcome explicit.
Make a shared vision tangible
Turn a possible direction into journeys, concepts and experiences people can meaningfully assess. A vision becomes easier to discuss when people can see what it would mean in practice. I develop future user journeys, product or service concepts and illustrative prototypes that connect the ambition with specific situations.
These artefacts help reveal disagreements that broad language can conceal. Stakeholders can discuss who the future experience serves, how it would work and which qualities matter most. We refine the direction with that feedback and identify the assumptions it depends on. The result gives the team a shared reference for further work, with enough detail to invite challenge and enough flexibility to evolve.
Choose actions that make sense now
Connect the longer-term direction with practical experiments, priorities and signals to monitor. We examine what the scenarios and vision imply for decisions the organisation can make in the near term. Some actions may be useful across several futures; others may depend on a particular assumption becoming more credible.
I help translate those options into focused research, concepts or experiments, with responsibilities and review points appropriate to the brief. We identify the signals worth monitoring and what would prompt a change in direction. This gives the vision a practical role in today's work, while preserving the ability to respond as circumstances and evidence develop.
